Yanagi composed this track when he listened psychedelic sounds like MGMT and Tame Impala. Yanagi concentrated on the low tone percussion sounds for 'Memorytape'. Yanagi finished the sounds first but he could not write the lyrics about 4 years. This track has same title to this album but this is not the main track of this album. 'Memorytape' comes from Radiohead's 'Videotape'.
The lyrics of this track express madness and fear. The vocal sounds like a voice from cassette tape to depict the madness and the fear. Also, the digital pulse sounds of the last part of this track mean 'I love you' in morse code.
This track is the only track which is not dedicated to someone.
「Memorytape」は柳がMGMTやTame Impalaのようなサイケデリックにハマっていた時期、打楽器の低音を中心として制作した楽曲である。先に作曲は終わっていたが、数年間、曲に合う歌詞が書けずにいた楽曲でもある。アルバムのタイトルと同じく「Memorytape」であるが、タイトル曲というわけではない。本アルバムが柳にとって大事な12人に捧げるということもあり、彼の人生を振り返っているようなアルバムとなっていることから、この曲のタイトルから名前をつけたのである。「Memorytape」自体はRadioheadの「Videotape」に影響されたタイトルである。
歌詞は曲の雰囲気に合わせて、狂気や恐怖を感じさせるような重い歌詞となっている。曲のタイトルに「tape」という単語が使われていることと、重い雰囲気を表すために、ボーカルはカセットテープに録音されているような声で表現されている。最後の電気信号のような音はモールス符号で「I love you」となっている。
アルバムの中で唯一誰かに捧げる曲ではない楽曲でもある。
