5. Paper Plane

'Paper Plane' was inspired by 'Like Spinning Plates' and 'Videotape' by Radiohead.
Yanagi created this track when he spent the harshest time of his life. He implied suicide attempt to a paper plane. This track is the darkest song in this album. Therefore, Yanagi hesitated to release this song for a while though he released this track to a single.
This track is consisted of two parts. The first half was only used piano sounds and vocal. Yanagi expressed simple sounds but something sad and uncomfortable. The lyrics depict before the protagonist of this song flies the paper plane.
In the second half, Yanagi reversed the piano part from the first half, and added some sounds like a digital pulse, percussion sounds, and vocal. Thus, the second half has two meanings. One is the protagonist flies the paper plane, and the other one is the protagonist did not. The meaning depends on the listeners.
Radioheadの「Like Spinning Plates」と「Videotape」からの影響で作った楽曲。
柳が精神的に最も苦しんでいた時期に完成した曲である。何の未練もなく自ら命を落とす様子を、紙飛行機を飛ばすことに比喩している内容の歌詞で、本アルバムに於いて最も暗い曲となっている。そのため、柳がシングルでリリースするまで発表するか迷っていた曲でもある。
2部に分かれて構成されていて、前半はピアノサウンドとボーカルが使われている。一見、普通の綺麗な雰囲気に聴こえるが、どこか少し悲しくて、心地悪くさせるような雰囲気を表現している。歌詞は迷いなく飛び降りる様子を表している。
後半は前半のピアノサウンドの一部をリバースさせ、即興のボーカルと電気信号のような音、打楽器サウンドなどが使われている。そのことから、後半は2つの意味を持っている。一つは、飛行機を飛ばして終わる直前、走馬灯のように人生を見返す瞬間を意味している。もう一つは、飛行機を飛ばさず、もう一度、今までの人生を振り返っている瞬間を意味している。この2つの中でどの方を選択するかは聴者に任せている。
